Looks like it’s the end of the line for my last Android games on Google Play. They’ve been phasing in new target API requirements and on August 31, apps not targeting a reasonably recent API level will be more or less hidden, though not technically taken down. This is probably a good thing in general, but I’m pretty much out of the app developer game at this point, and I’m not sure these games can even be updated, so I have no plans to update them. To be honest, I’m surprised they lasted this long. Firefighter VR+Touch was overtaken by deprecated technologies and changing requirements within a few years of its release.
The games affected are:
- Ascension: Adventure
- Ascension Adventure 2
- Ascension
- Point Defence
I don’t think I’m going to bother with a formal announcement, and I’m not sure if I’m going to explicitly unpublish those games, but I’ve quietly removed the Google Play link from my main site. Of course, if you really want to, you can still download them all from the archive site. The only one that was exclusive to Android was Point Defence; Ascension was ported from the desktop and the two Ascension Adventure games are playable in the browser.
